Released last year on Smallville as part of the Simply Positive EP, German producer STL’s Joy Operator is a sprightly number that bounces along. Bound to put you in a good mood.
Tick Of the Clock was released in 2007 on the label Italian’s Do It Better. The Chromatics used building drum patterns and atmospheric synths to create this incredibly tense yet therapeutic track. Some may recognise it due to it being part of the soundtrack of the movie Drive. Overall the track combines analog synths and grainy drum hits to create a exquisite track.
The standout release on New York based producer Athony Naples’ Zipacon (The Trilogy Tapes) – Perro, a re-work of Busy Signal. The track is given new life , it maintains a stealthy building beat that actually comes sooner than you would expect, falling hand in hand with the slow burning melancholic melody.
Hemlock Recordings played a key role in expanding and defining the post-dubstep horizon and has remained a significant example in years since. After it absence it returned in 2013 by giving us Bring/Curtains by UK DJ and producer Rohan Walder, aka Randomer. The release confirms the eery side to Randomer’s music. The disloctated 4/4 drumwork and gaping low end are still present accompanied by a pounding kick and bass arranged amongst offbeat impish vocal samples.
